Microsoft phone scam alert.

Hey folks! I got a call today from somebody with an accent that indicated he did not grow up in America with English-speaking parents. He told me he was from Microsoft, and was calling me about my Windows account.

He seemed to have some difficulty hearing me, as he kept saying “Hello? Hello, are you there?” I hung up on him, and if something like that happens to you? I suggest you do the same!

The folks at Microsoft are not going to call you out of the blue. You can be sure of that, because they say so, and you can read it for yourself, by going to the following link.

By the way, my caller ID shows the number they are using to be: 208-493-5158 They have called me twice from it. I called it, and got a message that it is not in service.

If you get a call like this, even if you are positive it is a scam, please contact the Maine Attorney General’s Office Consumer Protection department at 207-626-8849.  If possible please be ready to give them the number the potential scammers were calling from.

There are a lot of pretty convincing scams out there.  Do yourself a favor, and click on the helpful link provided by the Maine Attorney General’s Office, to get an idea of what types of tactics there folks are using to scam you! Money is hard to come by, and erasing identity theft can be a real pain in the rumpus room if you catch my drift!

Good luck!  By the way…This is the price we pay for the luxury of doing worldwide business.  Gone are the days when if you received a strange call, or letter from a company, you could just march down to the local brick and mortar office and ask to speak with a manager!  Pretty great isn’t it???
