Early spring in Maine, is a horrible, HORRIBLE time of year! Even when the sun is out, and it is warm, it is still miserable… Everything is brown and gray.
The ground is wet and muddy. There is standing water and mud everywhere. My yard is a swamp! My chickens are soggy, and my goats need muckers!
The air is gritty and filled with blowing particles of road salt, and sand. You can’t walk the streets because it flies around in great clouds with every passing car.
There is no grass, and no leaves on the trees. Even if you can find dry places to walk in the woods, the ticks are already out in force! ***(see below)***
To make it worse, we never really got a good winter in! I LOVE winter, especially with small, but frequent snowstorms to keep things white, and bitter cold nights to make good ice on the lakes for fishing. But this winter? MUD SEASON since January!
Yes, I HATE Mud Season…Possibly even more than I hate summer, as this is the only time of year that I would like to go some place hot. I suspect that after a few days of hot and muggy, I’d be glad to get back to cold and damp. If somebody wants to fund a trip for me to test the hypothesis, drop me a line!
***AWESOME UPDATE!!!*** All of the pictures below were taken by me, today, in my own yard. After it stopped raining for a few minutes, I decided to cook some ribs on the grill, and fill my bird feeders. I was outside maybe 45 minutes? I was just in the shower, and found a tick embedded in my arm! YAY!!!
