Introducing Ah The Things I’ve Done, a blog about a normal Maine guy… sort of

So apparently I have a blog now?  I’m going to be honest with you.  I don’t really have any idea what that means!  All I know is my friends on facebook seem to think I am hilarious, and or/a genius, or SOMETHING like that.

I’ll tell them about the time my dog got loose and how I had to search the neighborhood high and low to find him.  And they will find it to be the funniest thing they have heard in weeks… Seriously, I’m not real sure how funny it is when a fat man goes plowing through the raspberries, pucker brush and ticks because he hears his beagle running through the woods, only to emerge in a cattle pasture looking at somebody else’s dog tied on a runner three miles from where he started!  I drag myself home, covered in mud, pine needles, and the bodies of the 215 thousand mosquitoes, and black flies I have squashed along the way.  Once I finally get home, I flop down on the couch, and sit RIGHT ON THE DOG!  I spend HOURS looking for him in 90 degree heat, risking stroke and dehydration, only to discover that he had been sleeping under a blanket because he was cold from the air conditioner!  And THAT is funny?

Next thing you know, somebody has shared that story on their facebook page, and one of their friends sends me a friendship request.  Before long, I am getting messages, and requests from people I’ve never even heard of, and they all tell me I should be writing a blog.

So here I am!  Writing a blog!  I don’t really know WHAT I am supposed to be writing about!  Most of my friends just tell me to write the same things I would post on facebook, but who wants to hear about my wife Jen slamming on the brakes and turning around to rescue a Muscovy duck on the side of US RT 1 in Stockton Springs only to discover it was really a turkey vulture who is now upset because we have disturbed his meal of woodchuck pancake?

Others see my rants about current events as something I should share beyond the confines of Facebook.  (But that is likely just so THEY don’t have to see it!)  Personally?  I find the current leadership in Augusta to be a refreshing change!  I think ALL elected officials should speak their mind, openly, and honestly!  Sure, at times the man is a bit BLUNT, but at least you know what is on his mind!  AND he is doing what he promised, trying to lower income tax, and boost revenues by making Maine a great place to do business!  What’s wrong with that!  SO WHAT if they poke fun of him in national media.  Any press is good press….right?  OK…Maybe not.

At any rate!  I am here now, and I hope you enjoy my take on life, not just in the greater Bangor area, but in the world in general!  I look forward to sharing my stories with you, and I welcome you to take share your opinions with me!  I won’t always agree, but I will always do my best to see things in a different light.  As we all should!

About Doug Alley

I grew up in Bath, Maine in an upper lower class family with 3 step sisters, a step brother, and a little sister. After high school I spent 3 years serving in the USAF at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage AK. I've competed in, and won, demolition derbies. I've competed in, and never won, stock car races. I am the 47-year-old father of an 11-year-old boy who is pretty sure he is smarter than I ever was. We live on a little less than an acre of land in a 1973 mobile home in Stetson with my wife Jen, some cats, a few chickens, and rabbits, and a couple of goats. I hunt, fish, camp out, dabble in photography, gardening, and I cook in variable degrees of near success.
